Webster County High School girls’ golf team claimed the first-ever Pennyrile Athletic Conference title last Thursday at Madisonville Community Golf Course, lead by a outstanding round from Cassidy Thomas. WCHS had the only full team competing in the four-school conference which includes Hopkins County Central, Crittenden County and Union County.
The talented junior fired a 41 to grab the individual title, besting Dekoven Taylor of Hopkins County Central by one stroke.
WC sophomore Ashley Henry was fifth overall with a 50, followed by Dara Wyatt’s 61 and Hannah Buchanan’s 63.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Trojans took on Hopkinsville and Owensboro in Madisonville. Hopkinsville won the tri-match with a 146 while the WCHS girls finished with a 156 total, topping Owensboro by one stroke. The match was shortened to six holes due to darkness.
Cassidy Thomas again aced the field for medalist honors, finishing with a 27. Ashley Henry added a 40 while Dara Wyatt was two strokes back at 42 and Hannah Buchanan a 47.
Webster started a strong three-match swing on Sept. 12, smashing Ohio County 201-229 at Providence Municipal Golf Club. Cassidy Thomas again took medalist honors with a 5-over-par 41. Ashley Henry added a 48, Macye Davis a 52 and Hannah Buchanan a 60.
