Iszack Whitsell wins second 5K invitational title

As cross country regional and state championships fast approach, one WCHS runner seems to be on a mission. Webster senior Iszack won his second 5K invitational title of the year, capturing the highly-touted Marshall County Invitational Saturday in Draffenville.
Whitsell turned in one of his fastest times of the season (16:52.23) on Saturday to easily top the field and lead the Trojans to a third-place team finish.
Webster freshman Ronin Periard was 21st overall in 18:44.58 while Trevor Cole, a sophomore, returned to competition after missing three weeks with an injury. He finished 33rd with a 19:01.90.

Preston Glazebrook, another sophomore, was 37th (19:07.25), followed by fellow sophomore Mitchael Shelton in 38th position (19:11.65).
  A pair of WCHS seniors cracked the top 50 as Jeremy Garret was 40th (19:19.58) and Nolan Pettit was 48th (19:28:00). First year runner and fellow senior Caanan Floyd continued to show improvement, grabbing 64th-position and cracking the 20-minute mark in 19:53.59.
WC’s Robert Daugherty was 109th (21:25.95) while Spencer McCormick was 117th (21:54.65). Reece Clayton finished 151st (23:42.51), Luke Glazebrook, just a fourth grader, was 187th (26:35.20) while Poom Prasopsukh was 188th (25:57.37).
Jackson, Missouri, completed the team sweep easily winning with 41 points. The girls squad dominated their race to open the invitational.

It was another strong finish for the WCHS girls’ varsity cross country team, racing to a fourth-place finish in the Marshall County Invitational. The Lady Trojans missed out on third place by just one position, following Fort Campbell 131-132.
A loaded Jackson, MO. squad dominated the race with three girls in the top 10 to finish with 42 points.
Webster County freshman Chanler Cole was in mid-season form finishing 21st overall to lead the Lady Trojans with a 22:35.70 clocking. Aleja Grant of Paducah Tilghman won the race, her fifth straight title in the Marshall County Invitational.
WCHS junior Ali Cherry was next in with a very strong 28th-place performance, clocking in 23:06.10, followed by eighth grader Hadley Mitchell in 30th place 23:10.20. Kaile Branson, a freshman, was 34th (23:20.40), while junior Paige Tappe was 38th (23:43.30). Fellow junior Hannah Pritchett was 44th overall (23:50.40), followed by seventh grader Colleen Glazebrook in 76th position (25:41.80).
