The Webster County girls’ basketball program will be looking for its third coach in as many years, following the resignation of head coach Tonya Wells last Friday.
Wells, who guided Hopkinsville the 2012 Second Region title, ended her brief, one-year stint after leading the Lady Trojans to a 17-14 record this season but falling to Union County in the opening round of the Sixth District Tournament last Monday.
WCHS Athletic Director Matt Bell said that the search for a new head coach has already begun and praised Wells’ effort.
“Coach Wells gave great time and effort to the program and the school. The administration wold like to extend their thanks and appreciation in her for the leadership and time given to the WCHS Lady Trojans. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors,” Bell stated.
Wells, who was hired in June of last year, took over for Parker McCallister who also served as head coach for one year (2012-13). He followed Christina Whitsell when she ended her five-year run as head coach in 2012.
The school is now taking applications for the position and interested applicants should contact Bell at 270-639-3485 or by email at matt.bell@webster.kyschools.us
