Track team victorious in three-team meet

Webster County track teams enjoyed a nice, early-season warm-up during a three-team meet at Hopkins County Central last Thursday.


Hannah Pritchett led the Lady Trojans to victory with a pair of individual wins along with running a leg in both the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relay squads that claimed victory.
Webster finished with 64 points while Hopkins County Central was second with 62. Madisonville-North Hopkins did not field a complete team.
Pritchett, a WCHS junior, dominated both the 100 (18.74) and 300 (55.32) meter hurdle events. She then teamed with Kaile Branson, Darrian McNary and Paige Tapp to take first in the 4x400 meter relay with a 5:01.72 clocking. Tapp, Pritchett, Branson and Ali Cherry combined for a 11:57.28 time to easily win the 4x800 race.
McNary won the 400 meter (1:07.93) while Paige Tapp captured the 800 meter (2:55.56). Teammate Colleen Glazebrook was second in 3:08.19.
Webster also received first-place finishes from Kaile Branson in the 1600 meter (6:36.10) and Ali Cherry in the 3200 meter (14:14.56). Colleen Glazebrook was second in the 1600 meter (7:18.58) while Chanler Cole was second in the 3200 meter (15:03.09).
WC’s Bonnie Hoffman was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 7.44 meters while Ryann Wiggins was fifth at 6.86 meters. Brooklyn Drury was second in the discus (19.94 meters) for the Lady Trojans, followed by Hoffman at 14.81 meters.
In boys’ action, Madisonville easily won the three-team event with 82 points, followed by Webster County with 42 points and Hopkins Central with 24.
The Trojans looked very strong in distance races as Morehead State signee Iszack Whitsell topped the field in the 1600 meter (4:37.62) followed by Trevor Cole in second place (4:59.41) and Cole Hazelwood in third (5:00.37).
Trevor Cole won the 800 meter (2:10.14) while Mitchael Shelton was third (2:21.42).
Webster’s Ronin Periard edged teammates Roberty Daugherty and Preston Glazebrook in the 3200 meter. Periard won the race in 11:04.73, while Daugherty (11:47.35) was second and Glazebrook third (11:49.03). Reece Clayton was fifth in 12:34.10.
WC newcomer Zac Pugh was fifth in the 200 meter (26.01) and seventh in the 100 meter (12.28). Teammate Hunter Hackney, also a first-year runner, was sixth in the 200 (26.74) and eighth in the 100 (12.32). Ryder Wood was eighth overall in the 200 meter (27.90) while Curtis Yates was ninth (29.00).
Webster’s Matt Hoover made a nice showing in the 400 meter, finishing third overall in 1:00.47. Spencer McCormick was sixth (1:04.44) and Joe Chancellor eighth (1:20.39). Chancellor was also seventh in the 800 meter.
Mitchael Shelton was sixth in the 1600 meter (5:06.63), Preston Glazebrook eighth (5:30.99), Reece Clayton 11th (5:44.24) and Joe Chancellor 12th (6:43.63).
The Trojan 4x200 meter relay squad (Hackney, Wood, Pugh, Yates)  was second in 1:50.65 behind a very fast Madisonvile quartet (1:38.36). The 4x400 relay team (Whitsell, Cole, Daugherty, Hazelwood) also placed second behind the Maroons.
The Trojans took on some of the best competition from bordering states in the annual Indiana vs. Kentucky Border Clash held Saturday at Harrison High School in Evansville.
Webster’s 4x400 meter relay squad (Iszack Whitsell, Trevor Cole, Robert Daugherty and Cole Hazelwood) had the best finish of the day, placing second with a 4:08 clocking. Harrison won the race in a blazing 3:39.20.
Pugh, Wood, Hackney and Yates combined for a ninth place finish in the 4x200 race (1:54.80). Top individual finish for WCHS went to Trevor Cole (10:48.20) who placed 10th in the 3200 while Mitchael Shelton was 12th (10:53.00).
Ronin Periard was 21st overall in the 1600 meter (5:07.90), followed by teammate Robert Daugherty in 24th position (5:11). Spencer McCormick was 26th in the 800 meter (2:33.50) while Preston Glazebrook was 27th (2:36.30). Glazebrook was also 27th in the 400 meter (1:06).
Ryder Wood was 29th in the 100 meter (13.5) and 28th in the 200 meter (29.00).
Webster will participate in the Twilight Relays held Friday night at Marshall County High School.
