Webster County’s football season came to an end Friday night in the opening round of the of the 2014 KHSAA 3A State Football playoffs against South Warren High School in Bowling Green.
The Spartans (11-0), the state’s top-rated team in Class 3A, limited the Trojans to just 45 total yards in the 41-0 shutout. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the South Warren defense, which will advance to the second round of the playoffs against Trigg County this Friday. Trigg topped Edmonson County 32-12 in their first-round game Friday night.
In Friday’s victory, South Warren finished with 343 total yards, most of the damage done on the ground by junior running back Julius Allen. He finished with 95 of SW’s 293 rushing yards plus one touchdown. South Warren had five different running backs that scored in the victory.
The Spartan’s defense, top-rated in the state in all classes, had three interceptions including one by Brycen Lacey for a 45-yard touchdown return.
Webster County (1-10) will move back to class 2A next season, with powerhouse Mayfield, along with Murray and Ballard Memorial making up the four-team district.
