Grant’s scoring boosted Webster to a 2-1 lead at halftime and she narrowly missed several goals that could have given the young Lady Trojan squad added cushion.
But the Bravettes employed multiple defenders on the high-scoring Grant in the second half and limited her scoring opportunities. UCHS got a goal from Margaret Sprague at the 42 minute mark to tie the match at 2-2 and then received the winning goal on a penalty kick by Kelley Lott at the 53-minute mark.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from my girls,” stated WCHS head coach Troy Grant. “They played with heart, they played with pride and fought to the last second. It was a great game by both teams.”
Webster finished the match with 10 shots on goal, most coming in the first half. Union had a slight advantage with 13 shots on goal. WCHS ended its season 4-14-1 while the Bravettes improved to 10-7 and will take on Henderson in the district finals and make their first-ever trip to the Regional tournament.
