WCHS 3rd at 49th Annual Daviess County Invitational

Webster County senior Iszack Whitsell continued his strong running style on Saturday, finishing second overall in the 49th Annual Daviess County Invitational held at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro.
Whitsell took the early lead in the race but was overtaken by eventual winner Tristan Durbin of Apollo midway through the 5K race. Durbin finished with a 16:34.59 clocking on the hot and sweltering day while Whitsell crossed the finish line in 16:50.64.
Host Daviess County easily won the meet with all five runners in the top 20. Madisonville-North Hopkins was second while the Trojans looked very strong in third place despite racing without two of its top runners Trevor Cole and Nolan Pettit, out with an injuries.

The Lady Trojans kicked off the meet in the first meet of the day with a solid performance, placing fourth overall in the nine-team 5K meet.
WCHS junior Ali Cherry led the charge in 15th position with a time of 23:20.26. Rachel Keeley of Owensboro easily won the race in 20:46.81.
The next group of Lady Trojans was ‘bunched’ very nicely as Canlor Cole was 17th, Kendra Griffin 18th, Hannah Pritchett 23rd and Hadley Mitchell 24th.
Webster also received strong showing from the rest of the squad to earn a fourth-place finish in the talent-ladened meet. Owensboro won the race with 38 points while host Daviess County was second (69), Hancock County third (84) and Webster County fourth (97).

Webster County put a strong middle school girls’ squad on the course, finishing sixth overall.
Sadie Wurth led the way in 22nd position with a 14:28.57 over the 3K course. Cassie Adkins was 28th (14:37.40), Colleen Glazebrook 31st (14:49.04) and Carsey Daniel 41st (15:20.30). Natalie Austin was 64th overall (18:34.12) while Leah Harley was 71st (19:36.08).
In the boys middle school 3K, Luke Glazebrook placed 80th in 15:02.75.
Webster County will travel to Murray this Saturday for the Calloway County Invitational.
