WC Football moving back to Class AA for 2015-2018 seasons

by CHARLIE HUST
Beginning in the 2015 season, the Webster County High School football team will be moving back to Class AA as the KHSAA Board of Controls approved the final draft for re-alignment of football districts for the state for the 2015-2018 seasons.

Webster, moving from 3-A to 2-A, will compete in the four-team District 1 with traditional powerhouses Mayfield and Murray along with Ballard Memorial. Mayfield, which has won three of the last four state titles in 1-A, will be moving up to 2-A. The Cardinals have won 10 state championships overall in 1-A and 2-A.
Newly-hired Trojan football coach Adam Turner looks forward to the move.
“With the new re-alignment, the opportunity to compete with some of the great football programs from this area of the state is a great opportunity for our program,” Turner stated. “We are going to meet the challenge of building a solid football program head-on, giving each of our opponents the attention they deserve every week. This will allow our kids to have the best chance of success every Friday night.”
All four teams in the district will be guaranteed a spot in post-season play and will match-up with the Second District which includes Butler County, Hancock County, McLean County, Todd County Central and another 2-A powerhouse Owensboro Catholic.
Union County, currently a 2-A school, will take Webster’s place in the Class 3-A, District 1 along with Caldwell County, Fort Campbell, Paducah Tilghman and Trigg County.
WCHS Athletic Director Matt Bell was also very excited about the move to Class AA.
“I feel the KHSAA did the best they could to make sure all schools had a fair shake competitively and geographically,” Bell said. “I’m very excited about the future of Trojan football and looking forward to working with Coach Turner as he builds the program. It will be a very competitive district but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
