A free Kentucky Hunter Education and Bowhunter course is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16. This is a one-day course starting at 8 a.m. and will be held at Pleasant Valley Archery Club on Highway 293, two miles south of Providence.
The 10-hour course, sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Pleasant Valley Archery Club, will include classroom instruction in hunter ethics, wildlife identification, outdoor survival, first aid, firearms, bow hunting, and ammunition. The last session will include actual range firing and written examination.
A course completion card will be issued to successful students which is valid in any state, province or territory in North America. Attendance at all sessions is required unless an alternative classroom method is utilized. Pre-registration is required beginning March 1, 2014 for all course and is completed by visiting the Hunter Education page at fw.ky.gov.
All hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1975, shall, while hunting, carry a valid hunter education course graduate card in addition to the appropriate Kentucky hunting license requirements. Kentucky accepts certifications from other states. A bow hunter not in possession of a firearm may carry a ‘National Bowhunter Education Program’ course completion card in lieu of the hunter education card.
Children must be nine years old to complete the course. Children under age 12 and persons exempt from purchasing a hunting license are not required to possess the card while hunting. Children under age 12 who have not completed hunter education, shall be accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age while hunting.

If participant has taken the classroom sessions by CD-Rom or Internet, please print out the course completion voucher and attend the rage session on Aug. 16. Be sure and bring proof that you have completed this course online.
Walk-ins will still be accepted if you don have access to a computer. You will need your social security number in order to register for hunter safety course.
