Big run in first quarter propels lady Trojans to victory

By CHARLIE HUST
A 23-10 run in the first quarter propelled the WCHS Lady Trojans to 62-52 victory over McLean County last Friday in Calhoun.
Christian Papineau scored eight of her 12 points in the first period to lead the charge. Darrian McNary added five points in the frame including a 3-pointer.
That 13-point advantage in the opening eight minutes proved to be the difference in the game as Webster cruised from that point on. Kristen Keeney, who led all scorers in the contest with 18 points, added six points in the second quarter as the Lady Trojans claimed a 32-21 lead at the break.

The inside game of Keeney and Papineau combined for 10 points in the third quarter but the Lady Cougars out-scored WCHS 18-16 in the period.
McNary knocked down 7-of-10 free throws in the final quarter to hold off the upset-minded McLean squad for the win.
Webster senior Bailey Townsend added five points in the win while Hannah Pritchett finished with three points. Hallie Gibson and Kaylee Duncan finished with two points each.
Webster will take on McCracken County on Thursday and then host Union County Friday night in Trojan gym. The busy weekend continues as the Lady Trojans travel to Crittenden County on Saturday night.
