Trojans come back hot from winter weather break

By CHARLIE HUST
Despite a week layoff from bad weather and several cancelled games, the WCHS Trojans came out firing Monday night with a strong 77-48 victory over Lyon County in Trojan gym.
Webster forced 14 turnovers, had seven steals and limited the Lyons to just 44 percent shooting (22-of-49), including only 3-of-16 from behind the 3-point arc. The Trojans also out-rebounded Lyon County 27-22.

WCHS junior Mason Roland continued his hot scoring streak, pouring in a game-high 24 points along with a career-high 12 assists and four rebounds. He had all of WC’s 3-pointers, hitting 4-of-5 from behind the arc while nailing 10-of-16 shots from the field.
“Mason has definitely stepped up his game the past three outings,” noted WCHS head coach Jon Newton. “He’s as good a point guard as anybody in the region.”
Webster opened the game with a 6-2 lead then reeled off a 12-4 run to close out the period with a 21-10 advantage. That lead grew to 39-16 at halftime.
Lyon County never got any closer as the Trojan stretched the margin to 59-31 after three quarters of play.
Jon Stubblefield was also in double figures with 12 points while J. D. Newton finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Max McMain scored eight points while Maddie Melton finished with five points followed by Cole Hazelwood and Zac Shoulders with four points apiece. Colten Durrance, Trevis Bell, Shawn House, Jacob Fritz and Ben Brumfiel all got into the scoring column with two points each.
Despite the big win, Webster still struggled a bit with its shooting from behind the 3-point arc (4-for-14) and at the free throw line (7-of-13).
The Trojans will battle district-rivals Union County tonight (Wednesday) in Morganfield and then take on Henderson County Friday in Trojan gym.
