Trojan baseball goes 0-3

By CHARLIE HUST
Webster County’s very young baseball team suffered through a tough week, dropping three games to some very good schools.
Webster (4-15) hosts Crittenden County on Thursday and Henderson County on Friday. Dawson Springs comes to Dixon on Saturday.

Union County     14

A very talented Braves squad remained the top team in the district this season with an easy win over the Trojans Thursday night at Trojan Field.
Union scored three runs in the top of the third and never looked back in the five inning contest.
Webster’s lone run came in the fourth when senior Madison Melton stroked a leadoff double, stole third and came around to score on a single from Logan Edwards. Devin Morris had the only other hit for the Trojans.

Mayfield                 12
The Trojans looked to add another notch to the win column in their first game of the Calloway County Invitational held last Friday in Murray.
Racing out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Webster looked strong. Brady Wright and Ethan Clayton ripped consecutive singles and then both scored on a double from Logan Edwards.
But the Cardinals answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to steal the momentum.
That would be all the runs Mayfield could muster against senior right-hander Madison Melton until the fifth inning. A single, walk and pair of WCHS errors opened the door to a 5-2 lead.
The Cardinals then erupted for seven runs in the sixth to end the game.
Webster was limited to just two hits after the first inning, a double from Mickey Morse in the fourth and a single from Wright in the sixth.

Grayson County    9
WCHS had to deal with another tough customer in Grayson County in Friday’s tourney finale.
A leadoff triple from Adam Wilson, followed by an RBI-single from Mitch Williams gave Grayson starting hurler Adam Wix the quick lead. The Bears added a single run in the second for a 2-0 lead. Wix retired the Trojans in order in the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth.
Ethan Clayton stroked a inning-opening single, stole second and advanced to third on Melton’s fly ball to right field. Clayton later scored on a passed ball. That was Webster’s only hit of the game.
Grayson answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame and then made it 6-1 in the fifth along with three runs in the sixth.
