Webster County boys’ golf team was very busy last week, competing in three matches.
On Tuesday, the Trojans traveled to Owensboro to participate in a five-team match at Ben Hawes State Park.
Daviess County won the event with a 160, four strokes better than Owensboro Catholic at 164. Hancock County finished with a 168 while Webster ended it round with a 174. Whitesville Trinity finished with a 240.
WCHS junior Trevis Bell was third overall with a one-over-par 37 to lead the Trojans. Hunter Davis added at 44 while Devin Morris was two strokes back at 47. Zac Shoulders also finished with a 47 while Tyler Smith added a 56.
Webster turned in its second win of the season on Dawson Springs last Thursday at Providence Municipal Golf & Recreation Center, thumping the Panthers 160-240.
Despite bogeys on #1 and #4, Bell finished hot and post a 2-over-par 38 for medalist honors. Devin Morris was just one stroke back at 39 while Hunter Davis added a 41. Zac Shoulders finished with a 42 and Logan Edwards a 49.
Webster’s “B” group also got into the act with Tyler Smith’s 44 leading the way. Ethan Clayton added a 51, Kaleb Byrum 55 and Blake Green 70.
WCHS completed its week of action traveling to Franklin, KY, for the prestigious South Warren Invitational held at PGA Tour star Kenny Perry’s Country Creek Golf Course & Resort.
The Trojans earned a very impressive seventh-place finish in the 20-team field.
Union County topped the field with a strong showing, firing a 300 in the 18-hole tourney. Daviess County was next in line with a 309. Webster finished with a 326.
WC’s Trevis Bell tied for 15th with five other players, all finishing with 5-over-par 77. Chris Landrum of Glasgow blistered the course for medalist honors with a 5-under-par 67.
Webster junior Devin Morris was 32nd overall with an 81 while senior teammate Zac Shoulders also finished with 81. Hunter Davis placed 55th out of 104 golfers with an 87 to complete the Trojans’ scoring card.
