Webster County Trevor Cole has been very accustomed to seeing a maroon jersey crossing the finish line first over the past three seasons. So the talented junior decided it was his time to head to the winner’s circle during the annual Madisonville-North Hopkins Cross Country Invitational held Saturday on the school’s campus, featuring 19 schools and 138 runners.
Cole turned in a 17:06 time to easily win the meet and lead the Trojans to a second place team finish. The junior, who has run in the shadows of Jon Ashby and Iszack Whitsell the past four years, took the lead at the two mile mark and then breezed to the win by more than 10 seconds.
“I felt great, I felt strong so I just ran with it,” Cole stated after the victory.
Madisonville just edged the Trojans by five points (43-48), placing three runners in the top six.
Webster junior Mitcheal Shelton was next in at 17:59 for a ninth-place finish, followed by Ronin Periard in 11th-place (18:09), Preston Glazebrook 12th, (18:10 )and Cole Hazelwood 15th (18:20).
Webster senior Robert Daugherty was 22nd (19:09.90), Reece Clayton 44th (20:34.40), Spencer McCormick finished 78th (22:14.40), Joe chancellor 118th (25:59.70), Joaquin Gilberto 123rd (26:31.30 and Austin Morris 124th (26:51.40). Aaron Willhite placed 128th (28:52.10).
