Webster County defeats UHA Tennis

Webster County High School tennis team dominated University Heights Academy last Tuesday at Ruff Park in Hopkinsville, winning all but three matches.
In top-seed play, Cassidy Thomas drilled Leandra Meredith 8-1 while Hanna Van VanWinkle also posted an 8-1 win over Sofia Khan. Katie Floyd bested Antha France 8-2 while WC’s Katelyn Mattingly beat Lauren Wallace 8-4. Webster’s other singles’ victory was an 8-1 win from Kaylee Duncan.

Webster’s Hannah Buchanan dropped a hard fought 9-7 decision to UHA’s Makenzi Hamby while Amanda Newman fell to Bailey Morales 8-5 and Emily Johnson dropped a 9-7 set to Deeya Patel.
In doubles’ play, Webster swept all four matches led by the Thomas/Buchanan duo with their 6-1, 6-0 victory. Mattingly and Newman teamed for an 8-5 win while Floyd and Johnson posted an 8-6 victory. VanWinkle and Duncan completed the big day with a 8-0 thumping of their UHA opponent.
On Monday afternoon, Madisonville-North Hopkins beat the Lady Trojans 7-2 at Madisonville Community College.  Webster’s two wins came from seniors Cassidy Thomas over Brianna Gipson 6-4; 6-1 and Hannah Buchanan over Libby Shockley 6-4; 5-7, winning in a 10-point super tiebreaker for the third set 11-9.  The two Lady Maroons teamed up to play Thomas/Buchanan in the number one doubles spot handing them their first loss of the season.  Gipson and Libby Shockley won 6-3; 4-6 and 10-4 in the super tie-breaker for the third set. 
In other action Hanna VanWinkle lost to Emily Shockley 4-8; Katie Floyd fell 1-8 to Carol Cocke.  Playing well at the number 5 spot Brooke Clark lost in a close match 7-9 to Madison Cummings.  Rounding out the singles matches Katelyn Mattingly dropped her set 4-8 to Victoria Brown.
Two-seed (Clark/VanWinkle) and three-seed (Mattingly/Amanda Newman) lost to the team of Macy Craword and Emily Shockley, and Nita Nair and Madison Cummings respectively.
Several Lady Trojans also participated in an exhibition match with Kaylee Duncan coming away with the lone win in the 1-6 loss.
