Webster earned a berth in the regional with a dominating 7-2 win over Union County in the opening round of the Sixth District Tournament Monday night at Union County High School. Webster (10-5-2) played Henderson County (12-7-2) on Tuesday for the District title. Both teams will advance to next week’s Second Region tournament hosted by Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

Pennyrile Champs!
Webster County High School girls’ soccer team beat Hopkins County Central for the second time this year last Tuesday night, but this contest was for bragging right of the Pennyrile Athletic Conference.
After topping the Storm 10-0 earlier in the season, the Lady Trojans had a tougher time of it on Tuesday, using two goals from freshman Brooke Clark to claim a slim 2-0 victory.
The win upped Webster’s season record to 8-5-2 while the Lady Storm fell to 2-10-3. The victory also gave WCHS a perfect 5-0 record in the first year of the PAC which consists of Webster, Hopkins Central, Crittenden County and Union County.
In the early going of the match, it seemed that Central would dominate the match with the ball at its end of the field for most of the first half. But a stingy Webster defense and some strong play from goalie Brittanie Smith kept the game scoreless.
That changed 53 minutes into the match when Clark directed a corner shot into the net for the 1-0 lead. She then added an insurance goal with 14:02 remaining in the contest as the Webster defense did the rest to secure the shutout victory.
