Salato Wildlife Education Center hosting four-mile trail run Nov. 2

The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort is hosting the fifth annual Running Wild Trail Run Saturday, Nov. 2. Proceeds from the run will benefit education efforts at the center.
    The four-mile course includes primitive dirt trails complete with challenging hills, hairpin switchbacks, woods, prairies, brambles and all the obstacles that Mother Nature can supply.
    Prizes will be awarded for age group winners and top overall male and female finishers. All Running Wild participants will get a long-sleeved race T-shirt.
    Runners are encouraged to bring their children along for the day. Salato staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer fun and games guaranteed to keep a smile on every face
    Runners may pay the $25 registration fee on the day of the race at the Salato Center. Participants may also register for the Running Wild Trail Run online atwww.active.com. Registration forms are also available online at fw.ky.gov. Runners can bring their completed form to the Salato Center to pay by cash or check.
    Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. (Eastern) with a 10 a.m. start. The race is sponsored by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
    The Salato Center is operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The center is located off U.S. 60, approximately 11/2 miles west of the U.S. 127 intersection. Look for the bronze deer statue at the entrance of the main Kentucky Fish and Wildlife campus.
    Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Salato is closed on Sunday, Monday and state holidays.
    Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for youth 5 to 18. Children under 5 are admitted free. The center also offers annual memberships for individuals and families.
