WCHS girls soccer team wins Sixth District Tournament

By CHARLIE HUST
Despite a gutsy performance from the Lady Trojans, a very talented Henderson County squad prevailed with an 8-1 victory in the championship game of the Sixth District Tournament Wednesday night at Union County High School.
The Lady Colonels (13-7-2) scored four of their eight goals in the final 20:00 of the match, including two goals in the last 4:00.
Webster (10-6-2), which lost to Henderson 8-0 in late September, looked much improved in the district matchup, taking the fight to the HCHS squad. A goal from Christin Poole just 3:30 into the match gave Henderson a quick 1-0 lead. But the Lady Trojans  battled tough and kept the margin from growing most of the first half. That changed when Henderson scored two late goals in the period, including one with just 10 seconds remaining in the half from a 3-0 lead.

Back-to-back goals just after the 60-minute mark gave Henderson a 6-0 advantage. WCHS junior Lexie Cole broke the string and put the Lady Trojans on the scoreboard with their only goal of the match, a line-drive to the back of the net from the right side with 10:15 left in the contest.
All-District: Webster’s Destiny Starks, Lexie Cole and Taylor Main were selected to the All-Sixth District team, based on regular season play. Amber Short was named to the All-Academic squad.
