By CHARLIE HUST
Webster County High School girls’ tennis team completed it's season last Tuesday during the annual Second Region Tennis Tournament held at Henderson County High School. The Lady Trojans tied for fifth with Henderson County in the tourney under first-year head coach Mary Crouse Schalk.

Webster juniors Cassidy Thomas and Hannah Buchanan got things going for the Lady Trojans with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win over Union County’s Collins/Shockley duo during doubles play. But the WCHS combo fell to a very strong Caldwell County duo of Annie Wetzal and Kate Phelps.
Amanda Newman and Hanna VanWinkle had a tough draw, taking on the top-seeded tandem of Emma Newland and Brianna Williams in their opening round. The Lady Col duo easily won 6-1, 6-0 and eventually beat Caldwell’s Wetzal/Phelps team to win the Regional doubles’ title.
In singles’ action, WCHS senior Baylee VanWinkle defeated Allison Hancock of Union County 7-5, 6-3 in first round action. She fell to Khloe Freeman of University Heights Academy 2-6, 1-6 in the quarter-finals. Webster freshman Brooke Clark won her opening round match 6-0, 6-0 over Union County’s Payton Guess but fell to Lindsey Bryant of Henderson County 0-6, 0-6 in quarter-final play.
