WCHS Volleyball loses two matches

Webster County’s volleyball squad took it on the chin last week, dropping a pair of matches.
The Lady Trojans fell in four sets to McLean County last Tuesday. After winning the first set 25-15, the WC girls dropped three straight to close out the evening 23-25, 20-25, 16-25.




Webster was it own worst enemy, committing 23 receiving errors, 23 ball hitting errors and 19 service errors. On the bright side, Leah Martinez had an 88  percent service percentage while Christian Papineau led the squad in aces and kills. Ashdyn Cardwell led the team in digs and Brooklyn Drury paced WC in blocks.
In the junior varsity contest, Webster again jumped in front with a easy 21-10 first-set victory. But the Lady Cougars rallied in the final two sets 21-6, 21-13.
Martinez had five service aces, Jordn Rutledge three and Royliegha Conley one.
Webster’s freshmen fell 20-22, 21-18, 10-21.
Brianna Jones and Emily Ferrell completed 100 percent of their serves with Jones nailing seven services aces and Ferrell, along with Kristen Hearrin one each.
On Thursday night, Trigg County raced past the Lady Trojans in straight sets 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 as an improved service percentage from the WC girls wasn’t enough to combat the strong Lady Wildcat squad.
Papineau led Webster with nine kills and four service aces. Hannah Heady led the squad in set attempts, assists and serve attempts.
After an 21-18 opening set win in the junior varsity contest, the Lady Trojans dropped the next two sets 19-21, 11-21. The WC freshman squad also dropped it match with Trigg.
The Lady Trojan junior varsity squad competed in the Henderson County Invitational last weekend, falling to McCracken County, Christian County, Owensboro Catholic, Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkinsville.
Leah Martinez had a strong tourney, finishing with 13 digs and four service aces. Kaitlyn Cruse added two digs and three aces while Brooke McVay also had three aces. Royliegha Conley drilled two aces.
Webster will host Crittenden County next Monday and Ohio County on Tuesday.
