Webster Cross Country continues domination

Webster County boys’ cross country team ran away with the annual tri-county meet held Thursday night at Baker Parker in Dixon.
WCHS captured the first six places in the race and finished with an incredible, perfect low score of 15, topping Henderson County (48) and Union County (82).

Led by a trio of juniors (Trevor Cole, Mitchael Shelton, Cole Hazelwood), the Trojans completely dominated the race from start to finish on their home course.
Cole grabbed first place,  his third straight individual title in two weeks, covering the course in 16:43.73. Shelton was second in 17:03.15 and Hazelwood was third in 17:09.84.
The maroon-and-gold continued to blaze to the finish line as sophomore Ronin Periard was fourth overall (17:28.68) followed by senior Robert Daugherty in fifth place (17:34.80) and another junior Preston Glazebrook in sixth (17:37.93).
Reece Clayton was 10th overall in 18:56.70 while Spencer McCormick was 15th (19:53) and Hunter Hackney 18th (20:41.38).
Other Webster County finishes included Gilberto Joaquin in 19th position (22:03.90), Joe Chancellor 22nd (23:02.95), Austin Morris 28th (25:25.86) and Aaron Wilhite 31st (26:59.45).
The WCHS girls’ squad also earned their first victory of the season, topping Henderson and Union in the meet. The Lady Trojans took seven of the top 11 spots, led by a second-place finish from Chanler Cole (21:34.88). Abigail Arnold of Henderson County won the race in 20:33.77.
Another WCHS sophomore, Colleen Glazebrook was third overall (21:35.13) while eighth grader Hadley Mitchell was fourth (22:01.63).
WC senior Ali Cherry was seventh (22:39.15), followed by freshman Kendra Griffin in eighth position (22:40.07). Paige Tapp, another senior, was 10th overall (23:07.24) while Kaile Branson was 11th (23:25.84).
Hannah Pritchett was 13th (23:32.01), Carrie Grace McCormick 15th (24:27.59) and Kari Wood 17th (25:07.83). WC junior Holley Osborn finished 18th (25:20.84), Carsey Daniel 19th (27:00.90) and Leah Harley 21st (29:08.38).
In the girls’ 3K middle school race, Webster’s Brooke Shepherd took the top spot with a winning time of 12:52.53. Paige Shepherd was sixth overall (14:45.10), followed by Hannah Tapp in seventh place (14:50.28).
The young Webster boys’ squad looked very strong, grabbing six of the top 10 spots in the middle school race.
Aidan Whitsell, just a fourth grader, was first in for the young Trojans, finishing third in 10:38. Shawn McManus of Henderson County won the race in 10:02.93.
Webster’s Luke Glazebrook was fourth overall (10:40.66) while Marques Dame was sixth (11:08.94). Luke Garrett was eighth (12:04.79), Garrett West ninth (12:07.34) and Jace Jones 10th (12:36.02).
