Trojans fall to Hart County Radiers in fourth quarter

By CHARLIE HUST
With the score tied at 14-14 heading into the fourth quarter, the WCHS football team could smell its second win over the season against a winless Hart County (1-5) squad Friday night in Dixon.
After an interception by WCHS junior Dillon Baty to open the fourth quarter, the Trojans were in business moving the ball to the Raiders’ 38-yard line. But Hart County’s defense stiffened and held the Trojans on fourth-and-four.
Behind the powerful running of Darren Lynn, the Raiders put together the go-ahead touchdown drive, capped off by a two-yard TD plunge from Lynn and a 20-14 lead. Lynn led the Hart County charge on the night with 206 yards rushing.

Webster (1-5) showed some fight on its last possession traveling to 65 yards on four plays, including big passing receptions to seniors Wade McCulloch and Jamon Warren.
Lynn’s touchdown saving tackle on Warren at the 15-yard line kept the Trojans out of the end zone. Facing a third down, a Dillon Baty was picked off at the 1-yard line by Hart’s Jamon Boswell to secure the Raiders first victory of the season.
Webster’s defense looked very strong early in the contest, stopping the Raiders three times within the ‘red zone’.
Hart County finally broke the scoring drought at the 10:59 mark of the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Lynn.
After a three-and-out from Webster on the next series, the Raiders seem poised to score again but a fumble recovered by the Trojans killed. Webster then grabbed the momentum and rolled to the HCHS 10-yard line. But a Trojans returned the favor with a turnover of their own, fumbling the ball and that sparked another Hart County score.
The Raiders capped off a scoring drive with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Josh Shoulders to Brian Simmons. The successful two-point conversion pushed the lead to 14-0 with 2:26 before halftime.
Webster opened the third quarter with a very impressive scoring drive that ate-up over five minutes of the clock, highlighted by a touchdown pass from Baty to Jamon Warren to cut the lead to 14-6.
After a strong defensive stand, Webster tied the game late in the period on a scoring run from Baty. He also powered his way into the end zone for the two-point conversion to knot the score at 14-14 with 1:25 left in the quarter.
Baty led the Trojans rushing with 45 yards on 16 carries. He added 151 yards passing on 12-of-25 accuracy. McCulloch enjoyed a career night with 110 yards receiving on just four catches. Warren added six catches for 76 yards.
Junior linebacker Dylan Rich was the star of the game on defense with a career-high 11 tackles. Freshman linebacker Clayton Oliver also had 11 tackles.
Chance Cook added eight tackles, including two tackles for a loss. Baty added eight tackles and one interception. Jamon Warren also had eight tackles and one interception.
