WCHS Volleyball has first ever winning record


The WCHS Lady Trojan volleyball team has started the 2015 season with a 2-1 record, the first time the Webster team has achieved a winning record in program history.

The Lady Trojans began the season falling to McLean County in three sets (16-25, 23-25, 13-25) on Tuesday.  Brooklyn Drury led the way with 2 kills and 2 blocks.  Leah Martinez led with 3 aces, with Hailey McKinsey and Danielle Payne picking up 2 aces each.


The junior varsity squad dropped both sets against the Lady Cougars.  Kaitlyn Prow led the JV team with 3 blocks.  Cheyenne Watson led with 4 aces, while Martinez followed up with 3 aces.

The freshman squad also dropped both sets.  Watson led the freshman squad with 2 aces, while 8th grader Hailey Erickson picked up 1.  Emily Ferrell led the team with 3 kills, while 8th grader Macey Corum and 7th graders Courtney Townsell, Breana Forsten, and Kendra McVay led in serve percentage.

On Thursday, the team rebounded.  Varsity and Freshman picked up their first wins of the season over the Lady Rockets.  In varsity action, the team went 3-1 (20-25, 25-8, 25-16, and 25-15). Leah Martinez and Hailey McKinsey led the way with 5 aces each.  McKinsey also recorded a block and Martinez recorded 6 kills.  Emily Ferrell and Brooklyn Drury also recorded multiple kills.

The jayvee team started strong, but faltered down the stretch losing 1-2 (21-16, 17-21, 9-21). Martinez also recorded the most aces and kills on the JV squad. Kaitlyn Cruce, Addison Hearrin,  and Royliegha Conley each finished with a serve percentage of 100.
The freshman squad defeated the Lady Rockets 2-0 ( 21-11 and 21-15). 8th grader Lana Eastwood led the team with 4 aces, while fellow 8th grader Macey Corum finished with 3. Julie Eastwood and Cheyenne Watson each had 1 kill.  8th grader, Jaci Hardison, finished with a serve percentage of 100.

On Saturday, the team traveled to Cloverport to take on the Lady Aces from Frederick Fraize.  In varsity action, the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Aces 2-0 in close matches (26-24 and 25-21).   Leah Martinez once again led the way with 2 aces and Brooklyn Drury led in blocks.

The junior varsity squad picked up its first win of the season over the Lady Aces, winning 2-1 (18-21, 21-6, 21-7).  Emily Ferrell and Kaitlyn Cruce led with 5 aces each and Leah Martinez led with 6 kills.
