Webster County Senior Mitchael Shelton continued his cross country dominance this weekend by turning in a fourth place finish at the Lexington Catholic Invitational on Saturday, posting at time of 16:00.70 in the 5,000 Meter. That comes just a week after Shelton outpaced all 274 other runners at the Fast Cats Invitational at Yellow Creek Part in Owensboro with a time of 16:15:51, leading his team to an overall third place finish against the 29 teams in attendance.

But Shelton isn’t the only star on the team. When he cross the finish line, he had two of his team mates not far behind him.

“At the Lexington Catholic Invitational, we had three guys (Mitchael Shelton, Trevor Cole and Ronin Periard) run in the 16’s,” said Cross Country Coach Todd Whitsell. “That’s something I have not seen at Webster since I have been the coach.”

Shelton finished in site of the leader, North Oldham’s Alex McClarty, who covered the course in 15:41.90, and just a hair behind North Oldham’s Trenton Fryman, who took third in 15:58.00.

Webster’s Trevor Cole was 15th with 16:44.10, followed in 18th by Ronin Periard with a 16:51.90. Preston Glazebrook  was 38th with  a time of 17:27.10. Spencer Mccormick, Ryan Roland, Reece Clayton and Bryce Anglin covered the course in 19:20.80, 19:36.20, 19:53.00 and 21:59.20.

Lady Trojan Sadie Wurth finishing the course in 21:17.98 to take the 39th spot. Hadley Mitchell  took 45th in 21:29.43, followed by Chanler Cole, who finished in 22:52.92. Kaile Branson, Kendra Griffin and Colleen Glazebrook wrapped up the course for Webster in 24:09.15, 24:30.66 and 24:47.48.

The Trojans next meet is the Region 1 AA in Benton on Halloween. They will face Fort Campbell, Hopkins County Central, Union County, Calloway County, Paducah Tilghman and Trigg County.

“I’m excited for the post season to begin and hopefully we will send these seniors off with a couple of championships,” said Whitsell.
