Archery team qualifies for world tournament


The Webster County Archery team has enjoyed much success this season, and Saturday proved themselves to be in the top 20 percent nationally as they finished 41st out of 232 teams at the NASP Nationals in Louisville.

The finish qualified WCHS for the NASP World Championship to be held in Myrtle Beach, SC, June 24-26. The high school 3D shoot team also qualified.

The Trojans shot a team total of 3,352 points in the meet. That total was less than 100 points off the winning mark  of 3,437 fired by Hartland High School from Hartland Township, MI.

Two teams from Kentucky and one from Indiana finished in 2nd through 4th places in the tournament.
Madison Central High School from Richmond, KY, was national runner-up with 3,435 points. Castle High School from Newburgh, IN, was 3rd with 3,431, and Trigg County High School from Cadiz, KY, was 4th with 3,431. Castle and Trigg were separated by 8 tens.


Joshua Thompson continued his exceptional season, shooting a 294 with 24 tens to pace the WCHS performance. He finished 5th among 2,625 middle school boys. He was also 20th overall out of 6,870 male competitors.

Jonathan Stevens, who last week signed to compete for Madisonville Community College, finished with a 292 and 22 tens in his final nationals for the Trojans. He finished 36th among high school boys and 47th overall.

Kolbi Alsbrooks led the way for the girls’ WCHS middle school archers, posting a 290 with 23 tens in the meet. She was the 12th best shooter among 2,326 middle school girls and 40th overall out of 6,027 female archers.

Alexandria Weaver was 123rd out of 2,004 high school girls, and 201st overall in the girls’ division.
Recognized as academic archers were Thompson, Stevens, Weaver, Brooklyn Mays, Emily Jarrell, Swade Morse, Destiny Hall, Kaitlyn Rolley, and Clay Justice.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Webster County Middle School Archery team finished the nationals 54th out of 206 teams.
Their team total of 3,239 points was behind nationals champion Benton Middle School from Benton, LA.
C. J. Travis paced the middle schollers with 277 points and 17 tens for a 268th place finish out of 2,625 archers.
Recognized as academic archers for WCMS were Kaylee Alba, Tyler Kuykendall, Christopher Hall, Kobie Rolley, Evan Utley, Addison Smith, Hannah Smith, Chloe Rolley, Jennifer Weaver, and Eli Byrum.
