Webster County boys’ and girls’ track teams wrapped up the 2016 season last Thursday at the Region 1 AA meet in Paducah. The girls brought home a fifth place finish while the boys took seventh. Although both teams were eleminated from state competition, Junior Ronin Periard and senior Brooke Hoffman will advance to the state tournament in individual competition after taking first place.
Hoffman garnered two first place finishes at regionals. She destroyed the competition in the discus throw, going for 103-11.00 while second place Ja’Lynn Shaw-Moore of Paducah Tilghman took second with 84-10.00 and Makenzie Arnett of Hopkins County Central was third with a distance of 84-01.00.
The senior also claimed the top spot in shot put with a 32-03.00, narrowly beating the 32-00.00 mark set by Jaycee Kendal of Caldwell County. Monquie Copeland Brown of Fort Campbell took third with a throw of 31-06.00.
Periard was as equally dominating in the boys 3,200 meter run, finishing the course in 10:49.18, more than a minute ahead of second place Caleb Martin of Trigg County, who finished in 11:53.91 and Fred Prins of Fort Campbell who came in at 11:57.56.
The Kentucky State Track Meet will be held Friday and Saturday in Lexington.
