Webster County High School girls’ tennis team upset Hopkins County Central last week to capture the first-ever Pennyrile Athletic Conference title.
Brooke Clark, Katie Floyd, Amanda Newman, Cassidy Thomas all posted singles’ victories while Thomas and Hannah Buchanan combined for a doubles’ win. Katelyn Mattingly and Katie Floyd also earned a doubles’ victory as well.
In boys’ action, Ben Brumfiel aced Central’s Jacob Tow while Jeremiah Welton picked up his first-ever singles’ win.
In Monday’s Regional Tennis action at Henderson County High School, the WCHS doubles team of Ben Brumfiel and Trey Chancellor advanced all the way to the quarter-finals before falling to a very strong Caldwell County duo. The Webster tandem ousted Conner Mack and Rick Morris of Fort Campbell 6-3, 6-0 in its opening match before falling later in the day to the #4-seed Caldwell County pair later in the day.
“Certainly the best tennis this duo has played all,” noted first-year WCHS head coach Mary Crouse Schalk. “It was really fun to watch.”
